The Las Vegas Wranglers played another come-from-behind game Friday night, but fell just short in a 3-2 loss to the Alaska Aces.
“It’s a tough way to lose,” Wranglers head coach Ryan Mougenel said. “For the most part, we dictated the play. We had enough opportunities to win the game and we didn’t.”

Eliot Marshall isn’t a hard man to track down these days. After welcoming his first child, Kannen Henry Marshall, to the family last December, the UFC light heavyweight is typically either in the gym training or at home doing all kinds of "dad stuff."

OKLAHOMA CITY — Maybe a true consensus won't be reached until the shock of a 69-66 loss to Northern Iowa in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Thursday wears off a bit. In the immediate aftermath, UNLV players had generally positive feelings on whether to deem the 2009-10 season an overall success.

By no means was Thursday afternoon the first time BYU's Michael Loyd Jr. had stepped up to provide a spark with teammate Jimme Fredette struggling. But certainly is was the biggest.

OKLAHOMA CITY — When they needed him most, BYU star junior guard Jimmer Fredette came through big-time in a second overtime frame on Thursday afternoon in Oklahoma City. Fredette hit a pair of NBA-range 3-pointers to help the Cougars not only shake off 10-seed Florida, but it also helped seal BYU's first NCAA tournament victory since 1993.

Channing Trotter felt he could have made a difference in the game that likely would have changed the fortunes of the UNLV football team last fall. The tailback had an 18-yard touchdown run in the first quarter against Wyoming in the fourth game of the season and added two other runs of more than 10 yards in the initial half. Then, he was unheard of for virtually the rest of the game.

President Obama doesn’t think the UNLV basketball team will win a game in the NCAA Tournament. Obama’s made his tournament picks for ESPN, with the segment airing this morning. He has UNLV losing Thursday to Northern Iowa in a Midwest Regional first-round game.

OKLAHOMA CITY — If BYU's Jimmer Fredette actually was a secret to much of the nation before Wednesday morning, Florida coach Billy Donovan let the secret out to some more folks with a bold statement. OKLAHOMA CITY — As it stands now, Tre’Von Willis and Chace Stanback can at least say they’ve been there. Willis, a freshman at Memphis in 2007, never got to take off his warm-ups as the Tigers marched their way to the Elite Eight, losing to eventual national runner-up Ohio State.
